Welcome...

A special welcome to anyone who's followed me from my old "rant" at Walrus, and of course a welcome to anyone who's stumbled across me by accident, you poor souls. I always threatened to turn what started out as a "general" blog into a more specific "gadget" blog, since that's all I wrote about anyway. So here I am, concentrating mostly on the sort of pocket-sized digital toys I'm really interested in, and waste a lot of money on, though the "recession" might yet kerb my spending power :-(

The emphasis here is on "pocket sized", 'cos I learned long ago that unless I can easily carry it and not notice the weight or the bulk, it gets left at home and not used. I'm not into lugging around laptop computers or SLR cameras, I leave that to the real enthusiasts who're far less lazy than me, and probably don't walk as far either. I am unashamedly lazy, you should know that in advance, if nothing else!

And, before anyone I know asks "why the K?", it's simply that too many people use the correct "C" version already; I don't want to tread on their toes, as it were. K's nice, anyway, IMHO.

Just to give you some idea, my rants reviews are liable to be a bit different to the usual, covering an erratic range of topics relating to a product, sometimes in depth, but only about the things which really interest me, and I hope they might interest you too. I've often found these aspects less well covered, if at all, in other reviews, to my frustration when I've been trying to make a purchasing decision.

For example, I am interested in multimedia (music, pictures, video), but not in games - anyway, there's plenty of that already elsewhere. Appearance is fairly important to me, but not product packaging (the box), and certainly not the "unboxing"! I don't really do "social networking" (am I the only one left?), and I'm not a heavy phone user or texter either, I really prefer meeting people for real, so any aspects of a product relating to these simply won't get more than a passing mention. I'm very interested in performance when pushed to the limit, often in unintended ways, how things do work, how things should work, and how things often don't work, slightly "nerdy" stuff like that.

And, if I do stray into politics or religion, please, someone nudge me back :-) Anyhow, that's quite enough about me...

  1. Just to let anyone reading this blog, it's now defunct. I've had to change email address and forgotten my password, simultaneously. It could only happen to me. And, it won't happen again. Too late to save this blog though :-(

My new effort is at http://peterants.blogspot.com
